Since the global Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, the world of culture in general, and artists in particular, have been severely impacted. No country has been spared.

Moreover, in light of the issue of organizing exhibitions by flying in artists and artworks from around the world, the museum decided at the end of 2020 to organize the Luxembourg Art Prize in a different way, more respectful of the environment, and in a way that supports more artists than in the past. With this global crisis, artists need financial assistance even more than before.

Since the 2021 edition, there are now 24 finalists selected each year. This is more than double what it was in 2020, for example.

The budget previously used for artists’ air travel, for the international transportation of artworks, and for the accommodation of artists and final jury members has been redirected to create new awards given to the artists. Thus, there are now 3 winners instead of just one who are rewarded each year. They share a total of €35,000. The first winner receives €20,000, the second receives €10,000, and the third receives €5,000. It is the final jury that establishes the ranking of the winners.

As an artist participating in the Luxembourg Art Prize, you have more opportunities to become a finalist than before. And if you are selected as a finalist, you have a greater chance than before to become a winner and receive one of the three prizes.

The museum considers that this new organization is both pragmatic by adapting to the rapid changes in the world, and respectful of the initial goal of helping artists as much as possible.
