What is SOFORT?

SOFORT was a popular bank transfer method in Germany, Austria, Belgium, Spain, and the Netherlands. It allowed customers to pay directly from their bank account.

In 2014, SOFORT was acquired by Klarna and has been gradually integrated since its acquisition.

Is SOFORT still available as a payment method?

No. Since March 31, 2025, merchants can no longer accept SOFORT as a payment method.

Is it possible to postpone the end date of SOFORT?

No. The deadline of March 31, 2025, is imposed on all merchants, and we cannot modify or postpone it.

What should you do if you wanted to use SOFORT?

You must now use other payment methods, including a credit card or any other supported payment option, such as Klarna for example.

Does Klarna replace SOFORT?

Yes, in practice. Klarna acquired SOFORT, and this service is now integrated into its offering.

To make a payment equivalent to SOFORT, simply select Klarna as the payment method, then choose the “Pay in full” option (formerly called “Immediate Payment”). This option allows payment directly by bank transfer, just like with SOFORT.

Klarna is currently the closest alternative to SOFORT.
